Jersey Launches First Plan to Reduce Road Collisions and Casualties
1 February 2025
The Government of Jersey has released its first Collision and Casualty Reduction Plan, outlining key actions to help lower the number of people seriously injured or killed on the Island’s roads.

This marks the first time Jersey has adopted a formal strategy specifically targeting collision and casualty reduction. The approach brings the Island in line with international best practice seen in countries like Sweden and the Netherlands, where the Safe System Approach has been used successfully to reduce road deaths.
The plan sets an ambitious target: a 50% reduction in serious injuries and fatalities over the next ten years, with a longer-term vision of Vision Zero – where no one is seriously injured or killed on the roads.
Recognising that human error cannot be eliminated entirely, the plan focuses on minimising the severity of collisions through safer road design, responsible speeds, improved vehicle safety, better driver behaviour, and effective emergency response. It also emphasises the importance of learning from collisions to prevent future incidents.
