Road Signage

The road signs below are commonly found across Jersey’s network, serving to guide, warn, and regulate road users effectively.

Red Circle Signs

Indicate prohibitions, specifying actions that road users must not do.

No Left Turn

All road users must not turn left at the upcoming junction.

No Right Turn

All road users must not turn right at the upcoming junction. 

No Cycling

Cyclists are not permitted beyond this sign. It is often used in pedestrian zones or areas where cycling would pose a safety risk.

No Pedestrians

Pedestrians are not allowed in the area ahead, typically used on high-speed or hazardous roads where walking would be unsafe.

No Motor Vehicles

All motor vehicles – including cars, motorcycles, and mopeds – are prohibited beyond this point. 

Give Priority to Traffic

Drivers must give way to oncoming traffic, often used at narrow roads, or to reduce vehicle speeds.

Blue Circle Signs

Provide mandatory instructions, highlighting actions that road users must obey.

Turn Left

This sign means all vehicles must turn left ahead. It is mandatory and used to direct traffic in a specific direction.

Keep Left

Drivers must pass to the left of an obstruction, traffic island, or central reservation.

Continue Ahead

Vehicles must proceed straight ahead. Turning left or right is not permitted at the junction.

Cycle Path

Segregated use for Cycles and Pedestrians

Mini Roundabout Ahead

Drivers should prepare to give way to traffic approaching from the right and navigate the roundabout as usual, despite its smaller size.

Road Works

Designated route or lane for cyclists. Motor vehicles are not permitted in this space, and pedestrians should avoid walking in the cycle path for safety.

Segregated use for Cycles and Pedestrians

Shared path divided into separate lanes or areas: one for cyclists and one for pedestrians. Each group should stay in their designated space to avoid collisions.

Red Upward Triangle Signs

Serve as warning signs, alerting road users to potential hazards ahead.

Uneven Road

Warns of a bumpy or rough road surface ahead. Drivers should reduce speed to maintain control and protect their vehicle.

Steep Hill Downwards

Indicates a steep descent ahead. Drivers should select a lower gear and use engine braking to maintain safe control.

Slippery Road

Warns that the road surface may be slippery when wet or in certain conditions. Drivers should reduce speed and avoid sudden braking or steering.

Roundabout Ahead

Drivers should slow down and prepare to give way to traffic already on the roundabout, coming from the right.

Road Works

Indicates roadworks or maintenance ahead. Expect possible delays, temporary signs, and changes to road layout.

Pedestrians Crossing

Warns that a formal pedestrian crossing is ahead. Drivers should reduce speed and be ready to stop if someone is crossing or waiting to cross.

Warning Cyclists

Alerts drivers that cyclists may be present or crossing the road ahead. Extra caution and reduced speed are advised.

Crossroads

Indicates an upcoming crossroads where traffic may join from both the left and right. Be prepared to give way depending on road markings and signage.

Two-way Traffic

Warns of a change from a one-way to a two-way road, or where two-way traffic exists on a narrow road. Stay alert for oncoming vehicles.

Left Road Narrows

The left side of the road ahead will narrow. Be alert and prepared for restricted lane space.

Right Road Narrows

The right side of the road ahead will narrow. Be alert and prepared for restricted lane space.

Road Narrows on Both Sides

The road narrows from both sides. Be alert and prepared for restricted lane space.

Other Shaped Signs

Stop Sign

Proceed only when the road ahead is clear and safe.

No Vehicles

Motor vehicles and ridden bicycles are prohibited. Only pedestrians and individuals pushing bicycles are permitted beyond this point.

No Through Road

Indicates that the road has no exit at the far end. Drivers should not enter unless they intend to access properties or turn around.

No Entry

Entry is strictly prohibited for all vehicles. Commonly used at one-way streets or restricted zones.

Give Way

Drivers must slow down and yield to traffic on the main road. Stop if necessary and proceed only when safe.

Light Signals

The light signals below are used throughout Jersey to regulate traffic flow, ensure road safety, and provide clear instructions for all road users.

Red Light
Red means stop. Wait behind the stop line on the carriageway.
Green Light
Green means you may proceed only if the road is clear. Take extra care if you intend to turn left or right, and give way to pedestrians who are crossing.
Amber Light
Amber means stop at the stop line. You may proceed only if the amber light appears after you have crossed the stop line or if you are so close to it that stopping could cause a collision.
Green Arrow
A green arrow may be provided in addition to the full green signal to indicate that movement in a specific direction is allowed before or after the full green phase. If the way is clear, you may proceed, but only in the direction indicated by the arrow, regardless of any other lights showing.
